Man Charged With Gun, Heroin Possession After Raid In Dutchess

A man from Poughkeepsie has been charged after police say he was caught with heroin and a gun during a search warrant execution.

The Dutchess County Drug Task Force and the City of Poughkeepsie Police Emergency Services Unit executed a search warrant at 13 Academy Street in the City of Poughkeepsie on Friday, May 10.

The warrant was a result of an ongoing investigation into narcotics sales police say were taking place at the location and its surrounding areas.

The warrant was executed without incident, and 24-year-old Jamani Brown, who resides at the location, was taken into custody, police say.

The warrant resulted in the discovery and seizure of the following, according to police:

  • Approximately 20 grams of heroin
  • A loaded handgun that had previously been reported as stolen
  • Cash amounting to $800
  • Various scales and packaging materials

Brown was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, a class B felony, and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a class D felony.

Brown was arraigned in the City of Poughkeepsie Court and remanded to Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bail or $50,000 bond. Additional charges may be pending.
