Jermell McLean, 40, of Hyde Park, was caught after police responded to a report of a larceny from a Hyde Park home. When they arrived, McLean was waiting outside for a taxi cab, police said.

The taxi arrived at the same time as the police and McLean attempted to get inside the vehicle. Officers stopped the taxi and attempted to interview McLean when he tried to run away before being quickly apprehended, police said.

During a search of McLean, police found the stolen property as well as a defaced .38 caliber Smith & Wesson revolver which he did not have a permit for, police said.

He was charged with two counts of felony criminal possession of a weapon, obstructing governmental administration and petit larceny.

McLean is being held at the Dutchess County Jail on no bail, because of previous felony convictions. He is scheduled to reappear in the Town of Hyde Park Justice Court on Thursday, Jan. 5.
