Dutchess resident Robert Streib, 36, of Red Hook, was arrested on Sunday, Nov. 3, and remanded to Columbia County Jail without bail following his arrest at approximately 1 a.m., following reports of the stabbing.
Members of the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a Clermont home near the in Columbia County/Dutchess County-line, investigators said. When they arrived, sheriff’s deputies found area resident Glenn Unson, 43, lying on the ground with multiple stab wounds to his chest and abdomen. Another man was kneeling over him while others stood nearby.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, when asked who stabbed Unson, Streib responded that “I did.” Unson later died from his injuries and Streib was arrested. It is believed that the two knew each other and that it wasn’t a random incident.
Streib was uninjured in the incident, though his mugshot shows that he suffered facial wounds. No information regarding the injuries have been reported by police.
Columbia County Sheriff David Bartlett said that “at no time was there a danger to the community, and the investigation has shown that this was not a random act since both parties were known to each other.”
Streib was arrested and charged with second-degree murder. No return court date has been announced.
Streib is a member of the Board of Directors for the Red Hook Fire Department, according to the Red Hook Fire Company's website. No comment has been issued by the department.
