RHINEBECK, N.Y. -- William A. Wager, of Rhinebeck, died Sunday, Nov. 20. He was 94.
He was a lifelong resident of Oak Street in Rhinebeck. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II in battles in the European Theater, including the Battle of the Bulge.
Upon his return, he worked for IBM in Poughkeepsie and Kingston until his retirement in 1977. Following retirement, he worked for Ralph A. Pitcher & Sons. He was a life member of American Legion Montgomery Post#429.
On Aug. 24, 1946, he married Doris Jean Funk at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Wurtemburg. Mrs. Wager predeceased him May 31, 2007.
He is survived by his daughter Pamela and her husband Richard von der Lieth; grandchildren, Rebecca (Travis) Hanson, Matthew von der Lieth, Kelly von der Lieth, Jeffrey Wager, David (Marilyn) Lux and Brian Lux; great-grandchildren, Logan Dunn, Christina Lux and Tucker Hanson; sister, Eunice Long; and brother, Russell Wager.
He was predeceased by his sons, Jeffrey Wager and Martin Wager; and siblings, David and Donald Wager, Phyllis Schad and Vivian Rifenburgh.
Calling hours will be from 4-7 p.m. Friday at the Dapson-Chestney Funeral Home, 51 W. Market St., Rhinebeck. Members of the Montgomery Post #429 will conduct services at 7 p.m. followed by a funeral service.
