Karl H. Johannessen Sr., 76, Of Hyde Park

HYDE PARK, N.Y. -- Karl H. Johannessen Sr., 76, of Hyde Park, died Thursday, Sept. 29.

He was born Feb. 27, 1940, in Poughkeepsie, the son of the late Roy H. and Evelyn Marshall Johannessen. 

Johannessen graduated from Roosevelt High School in Hyde Park. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1957-60. He loved skeet shooting, boating, fishing and hunting. He was a former member and commodore at Roger's Point Boat Club, a former life member at the Crum Elbow Sportsmen's Association and an active member of the American Legion John Livingstone Post. He was a self-employed carpenter and contractor until his retirement.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara A. Christiana; son, Karl H. Johannessen II and his wife Lisa; daughter, Deidra Johannessen Reilly and her husband Colin; seven grandchildren, Tristan Johannessen, Nicole Johannessen, Ashley Reilly, Ciarra Reilly, Colin James Reilly, Sierra Laura Finch and Jared Robert Finch; five great-grandchildren, Alivia, Arianna, Isabella, Giuliana and Allesandra; and sisters, Christina Mittlebraum and her husband Ronald and Evelyn Charter and her husband Arthur. 

He was predeceased by his parents; and brother, Roy L. Johannessen. 

Calling hours will be from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at Sweet's Funeral Home, Route 9, Hyde Park. A funeral service will be conducted during the calling hours at 6 p.m. Father Chuck Kramer will officiate.
