She was born May 17, 1938, the daughter of the late Alexander and Anna Donnelly Baker.
She attended Catholic schools in Poughkeepsie. For more than 36 years, she worked as a bookkeeper and cashier at the Grand Union grocery store in Pleasant Valley. She retired in 2000. She was a member of the Hyde Park Moose Club and volunteered at Ferncliff Nursing Home in Rhinebeck. She enjoyed shopping, and she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Herbert E.; sons, Herbert E. Merritt III and his wife Patty and Edward J. Merritt and his wife, Jacqueline; and two grandchildren, Maryann M. Merritt and Edward J. Merritt, Jr.
She was predeceased by her parents and one brother, Alexander Baker Jr.
Calling hours will be from 3-7 p.m. Thursday at Sweet's Funeral Home, 4365 Route 9, Hyde Park. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Father Joseph Gaspar will officiate. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery in Hyde Park.
