Alan Donald Coon, 70, Of Rhinebeck

RHINEBECK, N.Y. -- Alan Donald Coon, 70, of Rhinebeck, died Friday, Sept. 30. 

He was born Jan. 5, 1946, in Rhinebeck, the son of the late Donald Norman and Harriet Rosalia (Tallmadge) Coon. 

After graduating Rhinebeck High School in 1964, he served his country as a U.S. Navy Seabee during the Vietnam War, completing three tours of duty from 1966-71. When he returned from the service, he came home to his beloved Rhinebeck and joined the work force as union plumber. He had many passions, including photography, working with his hands and creating useful items such as lamps and tables, and working besides his wife at area fiber festivals. 

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Donlon Coon; daughter, Allyson Kaitlin (Coon) Traver and her husband John Andrew Traver; son, Brian Michael Coon and his wife Rebecca Lynn (McCue) Coon; and numerous cousins and friends. 

Friends and family may call from 4-7 p.m. Monday at Dapson Chestney Funeral Home, 51 W. Market St., Rhinebeck. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Dapson Chesney Funeral Home with a procession to follow to the Rhinebeck Cemetery where military honors will be presented by American Legion Post #429 and the U.S. Navy Honor Guard.
