In early 2016, Colin Bemis is a 6-foot-5-inch basketball player on a team destined for the playoffs. Two year earlier, however, he was forced from the court after suffering the concussions in the late spring and fall, according to the Journal.
Bemis, who suffered from post-concussion syndrome, found that not only was he unable to compete on the court, but he was unable to focus in class and had trouble communicating with his peers, according to the Journal.
Bemis' case is one of more than 300,000 sport-related concussions that occur in the United States each year, according to the Journal.
