A man died after falling from a pedestrian bridge near the state Capitol, authorities confirmed.

Emergency crews in Albany were called shortly before noon on Sunday, March 5, with reports of an unresponsive man at the Empire State Plaza, according to State Police.

Investigators said the “despondent” Albany man fell approximately 45 feet from an elevated walkway over Madison Avenue. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Troopers did not release the man’s name.
