NEW YORK, N.Y. -- Hundreds of thousands of people stood in the rain to watch the 10-foot tree from the Hudson Valley glow in the annual Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony on Wednesday night.
The tree made its way to Manhattan from Gardiner in Ulster County.
Although there was no direct threat, backpacks and umbrellas were banned in an effort to tighten security, said Time Warner Cable.
