There is no charge to those with service ID, and public donations are accepted. Dan Karger, the organizer of the first PTSD Warriors Cove Island Picnic, said the day is designed to recognize the men and women who serve on the front lines.

Activities will include tai chi, yoga, Frisbee-tossing, miniature golf and touch football.

The U.S. Veterans Affairs Department estimates PTSD afflicts almost 31 percent of veterans of the Vietnam War, as many as 10 percent of Gulf War or Desert Storm veterans and 11 percent of those returning from Afghanistan. The disorder strikes twice as many women as men and can impact police officers and firefighters.

To donate or help organize the day, contact Dan Karger at 203-968-8680 or violetpilot@hotmail.com.

Cove Island Park is at 1125 Cove Road, Stamford.
