"Stepping up to Repair the World" will be discussed at 7:45 p.m. by Harriet Levin Milan, author of the upcoming novel, "How Fast Can You Run," and co-founder of The Lost Boys of Sudan Reunion Project.

Hosted by The Federation of Jewish Philanthropy of Upper Fairfield County (FJP), Milan will talk about the book and her work reuniting the "Lost Boys" at FJP's inaugural event in their new home located at 4200 Park Ave. in Bridgeport.

The program is free and open to the community.

Milan’s forthcoming novel is based on the story of five-year-old Michael Kajok Kuch who was separated from his family when he fled the civil war in Sudan. After living in refugee camps for a decade and being granted asylum in the United States, Kuch went on to become a Fulbright scholar and human-rights advocate.

“As Jews, we have a history of standing up for and with those with whom we have suffered similar challenges or injustices, from the Civil Rights movement to the plight of refugees,” says FJP Executive Director David Weisberg. “I am proud to be bringing our community together to hear a powerful story of how one person activated her Jewish values to change the lives of others.”

Millan is the director of the Certificate Program in Writing and Publishing at Drexel University, where she teaches writing in the English Department.
