Alzheimer's Association Hosts Educational Events In Dutchess

DUTCHESS COUNTY, N.Y. -- The Alzheimer’s Association Hudson Valley Chapter is planning several free educational events in various locations in Dutchess County this spring. These programs are designed to provide helpful information about healthy living, recognizing the signs of Alzheimer’s disease and strategies for caregivers living with the disease.

Programs in Dutchess County:

  • Know the 10 Signs: Early Detection Matters: 1 to 2 p.m., Saturday, April 9, at Dover Plains Library, 1797 Rt. 22 in Wingdale. Get information on how to recognize the 10 signs of Alzheimer’s. Call 800-272-3900 for more information or to RSVP. 
  • Healthy living for your brain and body: Tips from the latest research: 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 20, at Friends and Family Adult Day Program, 4327 Albany Post Rd. in Hyde Park. Learn about research in diet and nutrition, exercise, cognitive activity and social engagement and use hands-on tools to develop a plan for healthy aging.   • The Basics: Memory loss, dementia and Alzheimer’s disease: 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 25, at East Fishkill Community Library, 348 Rt. 376 in Hopewell Junction. Also offered from 1-2 p.m. Saturday, April 30, at NorthEast-Millerton Library, 75 Main St. in Millerton. An overview of detection, risk factors, stages of the disease, treatment and more.   • Living with Alzheimer’s for middle-stage caregivers: 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on consecutive Thursdays, May 12, 19 and 26, at the Red Hook Public Library at 7444 S. Broadway in Red Hook. This program will include a discussion with caregivers and professionals on helpful strategies for providing safe, effective and comfortable care in the middle stages of Alzheimer’s. To register for this program, call the library at 845-758-3241.
