Making Women Feel Beautiful Is Goal Of Rhinebeck's Haldora

RHINEBECK, N.Y. -- Haldora Bjornsson, who makes outfits using mostly natural fabrics in her Rhinebeck women's boutique, Haldora, is all about making women feel beautiful.

In business 20 years-plus, the Rhinebeck resident said she's been designing women's clothing that's all about what's comfortable and flattering. "Quality fabrics and easy designs that enhance the figure are what's important," she said.

Knowing something is unique - and won't be found on another woman in town -- also helps keep Haldora's clients coming back again and again.

"Since I produce my own collections, all my garments are limited, often with many one of a kind or three of a kind," she explained.

Another key to her store's success? The fine quality and attention to detail.

All of Haldora's garments and home textiles with her label are hand-cut and rolled individually before sent to her sewers Upstate. Most fabrics such as cotton, linen, and silks are pre-washed for extra softness.

Along with Haldora's private label, there are also a host of other products in the store "always with equal quality," she stressed.

This holiday season, expect more silks in her store along with lots of shirts.

Her Orchard shirt, a one size fits all, is complimentary to most figure types and ages, and among her most popular items. "I make this shirt in all different fabrics, colors, changing the details to suit the fabric with contrasts, buttons, or trim," she explained.

Also in the store this holiday season: double faced printed scarfs in silk chiffon or georgette which do double duty as a shawl.

Last but not least, expect to find more home textiles, including throws and decorative pillows as well as linen ticking tea towels.

Bjornsson admits retail can be tough but because she believes -- and loves -- what she does -- she continues to keep designing and creating.

Nothing, she said, is better than a customer who tells her what they bought from her is their favorite garment.

And with 20 years under her belt, that's a lot of compliments over the years.

Haldora is located at 28 E Market St., (845) 876-6250, www.haldora.com/.
