POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Andrea Balga, Central Hudson's counsel for Litigation and Claims, received the Extra Mile Award for her support and volunteerism with Dutchess Outreach.
Balga, who dedicates her time and energy in helping to feed local families by preparing and serving meals for the organization’s Lunch Box program, has volunteered with Dutchess Outreach for many years and recently became a regular member of their volunteer team. Balga also helps to raise funds for Dutchess Outreach by recycling ink cartridges through the Funding Factory.
“Andrea is a welcome addition to our team,” said Margot Schulman, the Lunch Box director. “She has a positive attitude and is always willing to help. She goes out of her way to help our organization and we really appreciate her.” Balga said she is humbled by the recognition and finds it fulfilling to work with Dutchess Outreach in meeting the needs of the community.
“Without the support of volunteers such as Andrea, it would be impossible to accomplish our mission and help those in need,” said Carol Beck, Dutchess Outreach volunteer administrator.
For more than 30 years, Dutchess Outreach has assisted families and individuals with limited means by providing 220,000 meals per year, feeding children and AIDS patients, collecting and distributing food pantry items, meeting emergency medical needs, distributing 6,000 winter coats per year and offering advocacy for those who will be homeless or experience catastrophic circumstances. The Lunch Box, located at 29 N. Hamilton St. in Poughkeepsie, is open on weekdays and provides 500 meals per day.
