A shoplifter attempting to walk out of Kohl’s in Southeast without paying for a purse was taken into police custody when a manager chose to press charges against her, Putnam County Sheriff Robert Langley Jr. said.
Putnam County Sheriff’s Deputy Brian Sacher was dispatched to Kohl’s shortly after 1:45 p.m. on Monday, July 8, when an employee reported that there had been a disorderly customer inside the store.
Upon arrival, Sacher located the suspect, Kasey Battaglia, 28, of Newburgh in the Everyday diner parking lot.
A Kohl’s representative told Sacher that Battaglia had stolen a purse from the store, but dropped it and ran away when the loss prevention alarms sounded at the front of the store. When prompted, the Kohl’s representative wished to press charges and Battaglia was arrested.
Battaglia was taken into custody without further incident and charged with one count of petit larceny. She was released on an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Southeast Court at a later date.
