Long Island Teen Critically Injured After Pickup Truck Overturns

A Long Island teen was critically injured in a single-vehicle crash.

It happened just after 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 11 in Bayport, Suffolk County Police said.

James Cermak, 18, of Medford, was driving a 2000 Toyota pickup truck eastbound on Veterans Memorial Highway when he lost control of the vehicle, which then overturned, at the merge with eastbound Sunrise Service Road. Cermak was partially ejected and a passing motorist used a car jack to lift the pickup off the victim.

Cermak was airlifted via Suffolk County Police helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he is listed in critical condition.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check.
