NORTH SALEM, N.Y. -- Despite the lack of power, the stalwart staff of the Ruth Keeler Memorial Library managed to keep their doors open and their books and other media circulating throughout the long and tiresome week of Irene.
Books and DVDs were checked out in the old-fashioned way -- on paper. The stacks of returned books piled up, waiting to be entered into the computer system once Internet access was re-established. No late fees will be charged.
Story times in the childrens room went on as scheduled, though in a slightly spooky atmosphere.
The library has also announced that the Coffee and Danish event, scheduled for parents and care-givers on the first day of school, has been postponed until Tuesday, Sept. 13 at 9 a.m.
The library staff and Director Caryoln Reznick expressed thanks, to all the volunteers and town employees who worked so hard all week! We are especially grateful to the fire department for working so hard to give us a dry basement.
