North Salem's Mt. Lakes Pool Repairs Finalized

NORTH SALEM, N.Y. - The contention over repairs to the Mountain Lakes Park pool has finally come to a close. The Westchester County Board of Legislators (BOL) has voted to override County Executive Astorino’s recent veto of a $700,000 bond to fund repairs.

Although Mountain Lakes Park is county-owned, North Salem has been responsible for maintenance of the pool area in return for the privilege of running a summer camp at the site. However, the camp attracts children from all parts of Westchester and beyond. Significant repairs were necessary and the Town of North Salem held the county responsible for funding.

With bi-partisan support, the BOL approved the original bill, authorizing a $700,000 improvements bond, with a vote of 12 in favor and five against.

Legislator Peter Harckham (D-Katonah) said in a press release, “I’m grateful for two members of the Republican caucus, Minority Leader Jim Maisano and Legislator John Testa, who recognized the importance of this legislation and voted for it.”

“The camp at Mountain Lakes Park employs over 120 people,” he continued, “and the construction work needed to make the repairs will create good paying jobs. Keeping this significant economic engine in North Salem in proper condition just makes sense on so many levels.”

Improvements to the pool include repairs to sealants, deck repairs, resurfacing, filter pump replacement and other remedies.
