North Salem PD Has Hands Full With Suspicious Persons, Packages, Cars

NORTH SALEM, N.Y. – On Feb. 7 at about 5:15 p.m. North Salem Police responded to a report of a suspicious person handling a rifle on Finch Road. When Officer Smith investigated, he discovered a local resident who said he had been outdoors with a paint ball rifle. The subject was advised to use caution with the gun and to try to limit its use to his backyard if possible.

-A traffic enforcement officer patrolling the Croton Falls Metro North parking lot noticed a suspicious package, described as a red tool box, at 9:30 a.m. on Feb. 7. The box was brought to the attention of the New York State Police. Further investigation by troopers proved the box to be empty. The box was secured by the North Salem Police Department.

-A man living on Crosby Road telephoned police on Feb. 8 about 10:40 a.m. to report that a man was walking around on his front lawn, apparently talking to himself. The man proved to be the caller’s neighbor, who explained he was looking for his car keys. New York State Police and North Salem Police responded to the scene. Police said there is a previously filed order of protection involving the resident and neighbor.

-At about 12:45 a.m. on Sunday, New York State Police stopped Kathleen A. Reilly, 59, of Newtown, Conn. for driving irregularly on Route 22, according to police reports.  Police said Reilly disobeyed road markings and traffic lanes and had a blood alcohol content of 0.14 percent. She was issued uniform traffic tickets and is set to appear in North Salem Town Court on Feb. 20 at 6:30 p.m.

-Police said a vehicle that had been parked at the Ruth Keeler Memorial Library was identified on Feb. 7 as the property of Nancy Edwards, the woman arrested on Jan. 30 by New York State Police for alleged multiple acts of identity theft. Edwards is currently being held at the Westchester County Correctional Facility in lieu of $1,000 bail. A New York State Trooper said Edwards was supposed to have made arrangements to have the car removed but did not do so.
