WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- New York State Assemblyman David Buchwald (D-Mount Kisco) announced that six environmental organizations based in his 93rd Assembly District received a combined total of $123,800 in grants from the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) and the Land Trust Alliance for various projects.

“Each of these organizations, all of which are undeniably dedicated to preserving our environment, are well deserving of these grants,” said Buchwald. “This funding provides necessary resources for important environmental and educational programming, in addition to expanding their reach in the community. I am pleased that the Department of Environmental Conservation and the Land Trust Alliance recognize the contributions these organizations make, as well as the need to preserve our beautiful green spaces, the elegant waterways, and countless species that call the Hudson Valley home.”

“Conservation and communications landscapes are rapidly evolving,” said Janelle Robbins, Bedford Audubon’s executive director. “This evolution shapes the way we seek, share, and respond to information across generations. We can't wait to tap into this tremendous potential to better engage the community and foster stewardship.”

Buchwald helped to secure funding for the Bedford Audubon Society by writing a recommendation letter to the Land Trust Alliance. The Bedford Audubon Society and the Lewisboro Land Trust are two of three first-time grant recipients this year. In addition, the Bedford Audubon Society is the only Audubon chapter in the state to receive a grant in this cycle.

The breakdown of grant funding for the organizations in Assemblyman Buchwald’s district are as follows:

  • Bedford Audubon Society $15,700
  • Lewisboro Land Trust $4,950
  • Mianus River Gorge Preserve $60,000
  • North Salem Open Land Foundation $3,150
  • Pound Ridge Land Conservancy $10,000
  • Westchester Land Trust $30,000

Fifty-five different environmental organizations throughout New York State received funding through the Conservation Partnership Program, which is managed by the DEC in coordination with the Land Trust Alliance.

The program allocated a total of $1.8 million in grant funds statewide to non-profit environmental groups. The announcement of these grants falls in conjunction with Earth Week. The state’s Environmental Protection Fund (EPF) provided the funding for this year’s Conservation Partnership Program. Buchwald was successful in helping secure a combined increase of $15 million for the EPF during this year’s budget negotiations, bringing the total amount in the fund to $177 million.
