Mount Vernon resident Lloyd Scott has been sentenced to 21 years in state prison, followed by five years of post-release supervision after pleading guilty to first-degree manslaughter earlier this year following the death of his toddler.

Scott was arrested in May last year following an investigation into his dead son, who was found unresponsive in their Esplanade Gardens apartment by his mother, who rushed him to Montefiore Mount Vernon Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on April 16 last year.

According to Westchester County District Attorney Anthony Scarpino, Jr., on the day of the toddler’s death, Scott was alone with his 2-year-old son while his mother was at work. During that time, he beat the child, put him in bed, and when the mother returned home from work, she was told that the child was sleeping.

When the mother checked on her son, he was not breathing. Scott drove the mother and child to Montefiore Mount Vernon Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. While the toddler’s mother ran into the emergency room with the bruised child in her arms, Scott fled the hospital in her car.

Scott was arrested that night.

An autopsy performed by the Westchester County Medical Examiner’s Office determined that the toddler died from blunt force trauma to his body, including lacerations to his liver, pancreas, and intestines.
