NORTH SALEM, N.Y. - It's been 390 years since the Pilgrims celebrated the success of their first harvest with a festival that lasted three days and included corn, fowl and venison contributed by the Native American guests.
Some people still manage to make the Thanksgiving feast last three days, though two of them may focus on leftovers. Vittles and parades aside, Americans generally regard Thanksgiving as the most American of holidays -- because it originated here and because Americans have a lot to be grateful for.
Our Facebook page had a message from Gina Santonas, who is thankful for my family and friends. A long-distance message came from Jay Carollo, a former North Salemite now living in Iowa. Carollo is thankful for almost 16 years of successful kidney transplantation and all the old friends FB lets me connect with!
Watch the video to see why some other folks around town are thankful.
