The arrest happened around 6:35 p.m. on Sunday, April 6, when officers on patrol stopped a vehicle traveling southbound on Memorial Highway in New Rochelle. Officers pulled the car over after seeing that the windows were tinted beyond legal limits, New Rochelle Police Captain J. Collins Coyne said on Monday, April 8.
The driver, 44-year-old Aldo Nunez of the Bronx, was the only one in the vehicle. While speaking with him, officers noticed what appeared to be the handle of a revolver sticking out from beneath a bag in the back seat, Coyne said.
Nunez was detained without incident. Upon inspection, Coyne said officers confirmed the weapon to be a loaded Smith & Wesson .44 Magnum revolver with six rounds in the cylinder.
A full search of the vehicle uncovered further illegal items, including around 95 grams of suspected cocaine; approximately 26 grams of suspected MDMA pills; a loaded Ruger magazine with 10 rounds of .40 S&W ammunition; two boxes of .44 Magnum bullets; multiple digital scales; and large quantities of plastic baggies consistent with drug packaging, according to Coyne.
Nunez was arrested and charged with several felony and misdemeanor offenses under New York State Penal Law, including:
- Two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance;
- Third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance;
- Second-degree criminal possession of a weapon;
- Possession of a high-capacity feeding device.
Nunez was being held pending arraignment in New Rochelle City Court on Monday.
