CROTON FALLS, N. Y. -- Veteran actors Timothy Carter and Carey Van Driest take to the stage in Croton Falls this month in Schoolhouse Theater's new production of O. Henry's "The Gift of the Magi."

With weekend performances Dec. 10-20, the play is a fresh adaptation by artistic director Bram Lewis, with the music of Scott Joplin. O. Henry's classic looks at the true meaning of Christmas in the immigrant streets of 20th century New York.

Audiences will be treated to a “cookies and carols” sing-a-long at intermission. Timothy Carter will perform the role of Jim, Carey Van Driest will play Della, and Schoolhouse veteran, Len Gochman, will narrate.

Carter and Van Driest worked together earlier this year in a production of "The International" at Playwrights Horizon in New York City, theater officials said. Carter recently played the role of Leanne’s father on the original cable hit series, "Orange Is the New Black."

Carter's other theater work includes parts in "Charlie in The Whale" at the Adirondack Theatre Festival and the title role in "Henry VIII" at the Alabama Shakespeare Festival, among others.

Carey Van Driest has appeared on the Netflix original series, "House of Cards." She can be seen on film in “A Family Dinner,” and “Santa’s Coming,” and stage work includes "Othello," among others.

Len Gochman is a Carmel resident and board member of the Schoolhouse Theater. His career includes roles in Broadway and off-Broadway productions. On the small screen, he's appeared on "Law and Order," and done voice work on TV and radio productions.

"The Gift of the Magi" runs Dec. 10 through Dec. 20. Shows are at 8 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays, and 3 p.m. matinees Sunday. Individual tickets are $38 for adults, $35 for senior citizens, and $15 for students.

The Schoolhouse Theater, 3 Owens Road, in Croton Falls, serves as a regional equity theater for the Westchester area.
