THIELLS, N.Y. – A Rockland County teacher left paralyzed by a surfing accident has been back in the classroom for nearly a year now ... and he's loving it, according to a report by lohud.com.
Billy Keenan, a 49-year-old New City man, said he is thrilled that his social studies students at North Rockland High School treat him like any other teacher, lohud.com reported.
A former captain in the U.S. Army and athlete, the married father of two boys is an accomplished musician who played guitar and sang, according to an earlier lohud.com article.
Although he has physical obstacles to overcome, Keenan said he finds his five-day-a-week job not only liberating, but a way to convey the importance of never giving up --- not even during life's darkest moments, the lohud.com story said.
