Cuomo Aide Says Trump Has Started 'Economic Civil War' After He Tells Upstate NYers To Move Out

President Donald Trump continues to butt heads with New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s camp, this time over a new round of comments the commander-in-chief said about upstate New York.

This week, Trump was questioned about initial comments he made in 2017 stating that upstate New York residents should consider a mass exodus out of the state. And Trump quickly doubled downed on them.

"If New York isn’t gonna treat them better, I would recommend they go to another state where they can get a great job,” Trump said on Wednesday. “I love those people. Those people are my voters. They’ve been treated very badly.”

The comments did not go unheard in Cuomo’s office, and the governor responded when asked a question about it at an event held by the Association for a Better New York.”

“Trump talking about Upstate New York is like me talking about Antarctica: I have never been there and I know nothing about it,” Cuomo said in response. Jobs are coming back ... So it's a totally different economic reality that he's talking about.”

The president and Cuomo traded barbs earlier this week , when Trump singled out the Empire State and the Reproductive Health Act during his State of the Union speech, which was signed into law by the governor last month.

Richard Azzopardi, a senior advisor to Cuomo, also hit back against Trump, stating that he’s “started an economic civil war.”

"Let's be real: Trump started an economic civil war between blue states and red states in order to give tax cuts to millionaires and corporations in Republican states,” he said. "The man who spoke about unity last night is the great divider in chief — no one will forget the utter contempt he has shown for his fellow New Yorkers, nor will they believe his empty rhetoric to help fix what he broke."
