Orange County health officials are monitoring 2,836 active COVID-19 cases as of Friday, Jan. 22 after seeing the number drop to approximately 2,500 earlier in the week.
Last week, the number of active cases topped 3,300 as the region deals with the "post-holiday" surge of the virus following gatherings and celebrations.
The state Health Department was reporting 328 new cases reported in the past 24 hours.
There have now been 29,406 COVID-19 confirmed positives reported in Orange County out of more than 442,000 tests administered, according to the Department of Health.
There are currently 175 COVID-19 patients hospitalized in Orange County, with five under investigation with possible infections,
The overall positive infection rate in Orange County held steady at 6.6 percent, among the highest rates in the Hudson Valley.
No new COVID-19 fatalities were reported this week in the county as the virus-related death toll remained at 656.

Statewide, there have been 1,285,337 confirmed COVID-19 cases in New York out of 29.76 tested. There have been 33,594 virus-related deaths reported since the pandemic began.
