NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. - New Rochelle basketball player Khalil Edney, coach Rashaun Young and the Huguenots were the talk of the nation Monday following Edney's 60-foot shot that won the Section 1 Class AA basketball championship Sunday.

Edney stole a pass and tossed in the last-second three-point shot from beyond half court to give New Rochelle a 61-60 comeback victory over rival and defending state champion Mount Vernon at the Westchester County Center.

Edney, Young and teammate Joe Clarke  appeared on several morning television shows Monday, including Good Morning America and ESPN's SportsCenter to describe the miracle shot.

Several video versions of "The Shot" have gone viral on Facebook, YouTube and elsewhere on the Internet.

"It felt good, but you know everything feels good at a moment like that and I just watched it go in," Edney told the Good Morning America hosts.

Edney also quarterbacked the New Rochelle football team to the New York State Class AA title in November with Clark as his favorite receiver. Clarke scored 30 points in Sunday's championship game.

Young, who is in his first year as head coach of the New Rochelle varsity, played for the Huguenots in the early 1990s. Down by 10 points with less than five minutes remaining in the game, his team mounted a comeback climaxed by Edney's big shot.

"It was a tremendous moment," Young said. "These guys fought back and (Edney) did not give up on the play."

The Huguenots get back to work Tuesday, when they play Binghamton High School at Purchase College in the state regional playoffs opening round.
