New Rochelle's Ursuline School Wins Prestigious E.E. Ford Foundation Grant

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – A New Rochelle college preparatory school has received a $50,000 grant to further its Global Education & Serviam Program.

Several major donors have offered to match the grant, bringing the total money awarded to $100,000, according to a statement from the school.

The recently awarded grant came from the Edward E. Ford Foundation, according to the statement. It, along with the matching funds, will be used to enhance the Global Scholars Program and strengthen the school’s bond with Concern Worldwide, a global nonprofit with offices in New York and Chicago.

According to the school’s statement, Ursuline President Eileen Davidson and other officials were “thrilled” to learn of the award.

“We are extremely pleased that the EE Ford Foundation specifically noted the thoughtful direction our school is taking and our extraordinary stewardship,” Davidson said in the statement.

The highly competitive grant will further allow Ursuline to develop its program, according to the statement, which said that it will share its model for school-wide global education with sister Ursuline schools and others.

Among the school’s missions is to “create an awareness of global challenges in each student – whether she travels or not – to ignite lifelong reflection and conversation on how she might use her skills and talents to improve the lives of others.”

Founded in 1897, the all-girls Catholic school is rooted in the teachings of St. Angela Merici, according to the statement, which added that the school aims to educate, inspire and empower young women to learn, lead and serve.

Located at 1354 North Ave., the school serves 800 students in grades 6-12 from Westchester, the Bronx, Manhattan and parts of Connecticut.
