The New Rochelle Police Department received reports that the SUV was submerged in the waters at Hudson Park in Echo Bay shortly before 3 p.m. on Tuesday, March 19, police said.

Divers responded to the scene and were able to pull the driver - a man in his 70s - from the vehicle, unconscious and unresponsive. He was treated by paramedics at the scene and transported to Montefiore Hospital in New Rochelle.

The body of a woman of an undetermined age was later found in the vehicle was it was pulled from the water.

"Due to the lack of visibility in the water and the location that the second person was found in the car, this prevented the discovery of the second body during the initial recovery," New Rochelle Police Capt. Cosmo Costa said.

Officials said that the car was spotted driving erratically in the parking lot before crashing and landing in the water. The incident remains under investigation.

Neither of the bodies have been identified, pending the notification of their family, police noted.
