NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. - Hedwig Vetack, a longtime resident of New Rochelle, died Sept. 15. She was 97.
Vetack was born Feb. 26, 1916, in Plains, Pa., to Felix and Branislau (Opiatowski) Prawdzik. She worked for many years as a lunch monitor for the City of New York Public School District.
Vetack is survived by her children, Michael, Dorothy Mergel, Joseph (Elsie), Barbara (Tito) Rodriguez and Mary Ann (Robert) Wenzler; 24 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Catherine Vetack; former son-in-law, James Mergel; sisters, Bertha Prawdzik and Sophie Spiegel; sisters-in-law, Verna Prawdzik and Pauline Vitek; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Michael; son, Robert; brothers, Chester and Joseph Prawdzik; sister, Genevieve Gobbo; and daughter-in-law, Mary Ellen. Calling hours are Monday, Sept. from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday, Sept. 17 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Lloyd Maxcy & Sons Beauchamp Chapel, 16 Shea Pl, New Rochelle. A Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18 at Blessed Sacrament Church. Interment will follow at St. Raymond’s Cemetery.
