NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – With yet another nor’easter set to reportedly dump as many as 18 inches of snow on Westchester County, New Rochelle has hunkered down and is getting ready for the worst.

In an effort to allow public works crews to concentrate on snow and ice removal, sanitation pickup has been cancelled on both Thursday and Friday. With Presidents Day on Monday, the next garbage pickup will be on Tuesday, Feb. 18 in the north end and Wednesday, Feb. 19 in the south end.

Residents have been asked to remove any parked cars from city roads to facilitate snow plowing. They are also advised not to throw snow onto roadways while clearing their driveways, sidewalks and vehicles.

In the event of a power outage, Con Edison can be reached directly at 1-800-752-6633. On Wednesday, County Executive Rob Astorino ordered a limited activation of the county’s Emergency Operations Center in Valhalla. He’s also spoken to Con Ed and NYSEG about adding staff during the storm.

“While our experts continue to monitor the storm’s path, we are preparing for the worst and taking all the proper precautions,” he said. “Residents should also monitor the weather reports and if possible, stay home and off the road tomorrow.”

A total of 10 to 14 inches of snow is now expected to fall Thursday across all of Westchester County after the National Weather Service increased its forecast snow totals late Wednesday afternoon. The extreme northwestern portion of Westchester could get as much 14 to 18 inches. Some areas further north and west could see even more snowfall.
