NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – Parents looking to get their children ahead of the game before kindergarten kicks off now have a new option in New Rochelle, as the Guidance Center of Westchester gets set to open up an early childhood education facility.

The Creative Learning Center, which will celebrate its grand opening on Monday, Nov. 24, at its new Le Count Place location, will provide a strong education and foundation of learning for preschool-age children throughout Westchester County.

Amy Gelles, the executive director for the Guidance Center of Westchester, said the new learning center will provide full-time education and classes for children getting ready to start school.

“The Guidance Center of Westchester was founded on the principle that the needs of our children are paramount to a healthy community,” she said. “We’re thrilled to be able to offer families the opportunity to have their children’s first formal learning experiences take place in a nurturing and thriving environment.”

According to Jean Maisano, the director of public relations for the Guidance Center, by relocating to LeCount Place, the Creative Learning Center has added three classrooms that can accommodate nearly 90 preschool-age children.

One of the full-day classrooms is dedicated solely to those with special needs, and another combines students with special needs and typical students. The third classroom will be used by 2-year-old students.

Donna Morrison, the director of the Guidance Center’s early childhood education programs, said the organization has enjoyed great success by blending special education students with their nonchallenged peers.

The Creative Learning Center will house a staff of 23 teachers, assistants and aides, led by Felice Harris, a veteran educator who has administered at the Lanza Learning Center in Yonkers and the Lois Bronz Child Care Center in White Plains. Harris is also on the board of the Child Care Council of Westchester.

New Rochelle officials will join members of the Guidance Center of Westchester and the Creative Learning Center at 10 a.m. Nov. 24. Parents can register their children by calling Harris at 914-712-6587.
