On Monday, the front doors of City Hall were unlocked for the first time in years, following extensive repairs to the steps leading up to it and increased security to ensure safety.
The public will have access to the front doors during normal business hours between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. The rear entrance, which is handicap accessible, will remain as the exclusive entrance after hours.
In an effort to facilitate the re-opening of the front door, additional security cameras have been installed and visitors will be monitored at all times. On his blog, New Rochelle Mayor Noam Bramson expressed his excitement that the fleur-de-lis adorned front doors are once again open.
“This morning, for the first time in many years, we opened our front door on North Avenue to the public,” he stated. “The symbolism of a closed front door never sat right with me, but getting the door unlocked wasn’t quite as easy as turning the key. The front steps of the building had to be repaired and security measures had to be installed, and all that took a little while.
“Anyhow, the work is finally done, so come on in!.”
