NEW ROCHELLE -- New Rochelle's history might alter the city's plans to redevelop the downtown due to preservation laws that may necessitate review and approval by federal and state authorities, according to lohud.com.

In a 2000 report, 80 downtown properties are cited as "historically significant," thus requiring state and federal protection, said lohud.com.

Properties within New Rochelle's historic district that get federal or state funding would need to be approved by the New York State Historic Preservation Office, Deputy Commissioner Ruth Pierpont told lohud.com.
