The former New York Yankee closer met with local officials and McDonald's employees with his wife, Clara, to accept a $10,000 donation to her church, Refuge of Hope.

In each of the past three years, McDonald's has paid tribute to Hispanic culture and celebrities that have set a good example for their communities with “Celebrando Nuestras Leyendas,” which translates to “Celebrating Our Legends.” Last year, $10,000 was donated to the Jean Luis Guerra Foundation.

“We are proud to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with our program, which serves as the platform to honor heritage and rich diversity of the Hispanic community,” Celeste Quintana, president of McDonald’s Hispanic Owner/Operators Association, said in a statement. “What a treat to pay homage to one of the greatest closers in baseball history: Mariano Rivera.”
