Fresh Menu, Unique Drinks Praised At Berkshires' Gastropub

The concrete slabs and iron-looking frames around dark windows that make up the District Bar & Kitchen’s exterior belie the warm and upscale-casual atmosphere inside.

District on West Stree in Pittsfield serves modern American cuisine influenced by the eccentric gastropub movement.

If you want rosemary in your cocktails, chorizo on your nachos, and truffles on your fries, this is the place to be.

And, yes, I want all of that.

District has been around since the mid-2010s and is owned by the same man who owns Public Eat + Drink in North Adams - Jared Decoteau.

The menu is slim and relies on fresh, locally-sourced ingredients to create the most tantalizing, satisfying flavors around. Like nearly all of the excellent establishments in the agrarian Berkshires, District serves farm-to-table foods made from scratch.

Among the menu’s standouts are the Cheeseboard with housemade chicken liver mousse, PEI mussels, Pan-roasted salmon, Steamed littleneck clams, Kimchi Burger (Korean BBQ, wasabi mayo), and Cappuccino pot de creme.

Yelp foodie Alicia C. of Manhattan said, on her most recent visit to the restaurant, she appreciated District’s observance of COVID-19 restrictions and the delicious food.

“First, this place has a great setup for COVID - enjoy the outdoor area and just let the staff take care of the rest. They are making it an impressive meal all things considered. Safe and tasty, just how I like it! I've been here a couple times now and I'm always thoroughly impressed with each dish,” Alicia C. said. “Hands down - the chicken liver mousse here is otherworldly. It's what I like to refer to as farmer's hummus, and I want to slather it on everything. I cannot believe how good this is. Add it to the cheese board so you can really take it to another level. My best way to move through this menu is ordering a lot and splitting with friends. The mac and cheese, mussels, steak frites, burrata, salmon are all going to win you over. You can't go wrong with this menu. Just get after it!”

Online reviewers also praised District’s well-prepared staff and knowledgeable bartenders/mixologists.

Yelp foodie Crystal W. of Pittsfield said she’s hooked on District.

“I've been in the Berkshires for 4 years now and just discovered this gem 2 months ago,” Crystal W. said. “I've been in 5 times since!! The steak frites....omg!! Always cooked to perfection. Super tender, melt in your mouth. The waitstaff are awesome and the food is always fresh!!”

The drinks menu at District is just as large as the one for food. District carries a changing cast of wines and beers and blends seasonal craft cocktails like the “Fond of You” (vodka with Luxardo liquor, blood orange liqueur, Cocchi Rosa, and prosecco).

Yelp foodie Nathalie S. of Boston said when the seasonal “Bee-yonce” is on the menu - order it.

“The place is nice and the dimly lit atmosphere is perfect for a relaxing dinner,” Nathalie S. said. “The menu is diverse and vegetarian-friendly and the food is delicious. Cocktails are a must-try (bee-yonce has pollen on the rim of the glass!). Overall a recommended experience for people seeking a quiet and nice dinner with a romantic touch. Recommended!”
