A stretch of the Long Island Expressway has reopened after multiple crashes in Suffolk County after icy conditions early Friday morning, Dec. 24.

The closure was initially in both directions, westbound at Exit 56 and eastbound at Exit 57.

Eastbound lanes reopened around 7:45 a.m., followed by the westbound lanes.

The crashes were "due to hazardous road conditions," Suffolk County Police said.
