Beat The Traffic: Here Are Best Ways To Get To PGA Championship At Bethpage Black

The MTA is offering a variety of ways for golf fans to get to Bethpage Black for the PGA Championship.

Extra train service has been added to accommodate the tens of thousands of expected spectators that are anticipated to flood Farmingdale for the tournament from Monday, May 13 through Sunday, May 19.

According to the MTA, as many as 18,000 fans per day are expected to use the LIRR to reach the tournament, and there will be no parking available at the course. 

Once fans reach the Farmingdale LIRR station, there will be complimentary shuttle buses provided by the PGA will be available for the short ride to Bethpage State Park and the main spectator entrance.

Eastbound LIRR train service to Farmingdale will depart from Penn Station, Woodside, Jamaica, Mineola and Hicksville. Connecting service will be available from Brooklyn. 

Those traveling to the 101st PGA Championship from eastern Long Island will be provided with direct service to Farmingdale from the Ronkonkoma, Central Islip, Brentwood, Deer Park and Wyandanch stations.

To accommodate the thousands expected to ride the rails, there will be two additional trains in both directions on Monday and Tuesday (May 13-14); eight extra eastbound trains and 10 extra westbound trains on Wednesday through Friday (May 15-17); and 13 extra eastbound and 14 extra westbound trains on Saturday and Sunday (May 18-19) for the Championship Rounds.

Those looking to travel by car will have to park at Jones Beach, then take a shuttle bus to the golf course. Suffolk County residents will have the opportunity to park at any LIRR station for free over the weekend and travel to Farmingdale from there. Nassau County residents traveling east to Farmingdale can park on weekends at the Mineola Intermodal Center at Mineola Station for $6 per day, up to 20 hours, and $12 per day, up to 24 hours.

The MTA noted that the commuter parking lots at Farmingdale will be closed beginning on Saturday, May 11 and will reopen on Monday, May 20. LIRR customers who normally drive to Farmingdale Station bound for other destinations are encouraged to use nearby Wyandanch Station, where parking will be available.

Local residents and commuters looking to board/disembark trains at Farmingdale Station are permitted to walk to the station or be picked up or dropped off at Farmingdale LIRR Station. There will be designated areas for the pickup and drop-off along Secatogue Avenue.
