Three schools on Long Island earned Blue Ribbon designations.

Each "high performing" and recognized for overall academic excellence — were named 2019 National Blue Ribbon winners Thursday, Sept. 26.

Bethpage Senior High School, Manhasset Secondary School and Shoreham-Wading River High School each got high performing ratings and were selected for their overall academic excellence and named National Blue Ribbon winners.

The schools are among 19 to receive the honor in New York by the U.S. Department of Education.

The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program recognizes outstanding public and non-public schools.

Using standards of excellence evidenced by student achievement measures the Department honors high-performing schools and schools that are making great strides in closing any achievement gaps among student groups, according to the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program.

The Blue Ribbon Schools are honored at the annual awards ceremony in Washington, DC, where each receives a plaque and flag to signify its exemplary status.
