A PTA leader on Long Island stepped down this week after disparaging comments she made about Joe Biden on social media went viral.

In the same week that Trump supporters rioted at the U.S. Capitol, Nicole Zimmerman, the co-president of the Brookhaven Elementary School PTA, announced her resignation after posting a threatening message referencing the president-elect on Facebook.

During a political argument with a family member on her private Facebook page on Tuesday, Jan. 5, Zimmerman wrote “I will never respect Biden or Harris. I know what kind of people they are for. I hope they shoot him.”

In a separate message, without context, Zimmerman also reportedly posted: “You don’t just move the whites to (the) side and ignore us.”

Zimmerman, who spent five years on the PTA of the South Country School District, has since deleted all of her social media pages.

The school district has not provided a comment on the resignation, though South Country Schools Superintendent Joseph Giani issued a statement.

“Please be assured that the hurtful and inappropriate comments made by a PTA Vice President are not the opinions of the district, and the district in no way agrees with them,” he said.

The comments are being investigated by the Suffolk County Police Department, though there was no update on the investigation.
