The Nassau County Police Department has issued an alert for the wanted man from Roosevelt who allegedly was caught on camera breaking into an area home last year before barricading himself inside, police said.

Darwin Ortiz, 22, allegedly broke into a Mirin Avenue home in Roosevelt in June last year, Nassau County police said. He was caught red-handed by the homeowner, who alerted police to the break-in.

Ortiz temporarily refused to come out, before being coaxed into leaving the residence, at which point he was arrested without further incident. The investigation into the break-in found that Ortiz had stolen property from a different home during an earlier burglary in the area.

Nassau County Police investigators described Ortiz as being 5-foot-3 weighing approximately 130 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.

He is wanted by the Nassau County Court on a bench warrant after failing to appear in court on a charge of second-degree burglary involving illegal entry-dwelling.

Anyone who comes into contact with Ortiz has been cautioned by police not to attempt to apprehend or detain him.

Anyone with information regarding Ortiz's whereabouts has been asked to contact Nassau County Police investigators by calling 911 or (516) 573-7524.
