The incident took place in Selden around 11:20 a.m. Saturday, July 23.

Douglas Debonet, age 32, of Selden, was arrested after he exited his car at Old Town Road and County Road 83 in Selden and broke a side view mirror on a vehicle involved in the incident, said the Suffolk County Police.

Later that day, Debonet went to the driver’s home and was involved in an altercation with the driver’s father, police said.

Suffolk County Police said Debonet displayed "a firearm," during the encounter.

Debonet was arrested and charged with criminal mischief and menacing.

He was arraigned on Monday, July 25, and released without bail. He is due back in court on Friday, July 29.

Officials with the NYPD said he has been suspended without pay pending the outcome of the case.
