A Dryden Street resident in New Cassel reported that she heard someone attempting to enter her home through a rear sliding door on Monday, Jan. 27, according to Nassau County Police.

Another resident reported that they spotted Christopher Jones, 57, who lives on the same block, looking into the windows of the residence with a flashlight.

According to police, after a brief argument, Jones fled the scene. Approximately an hour later, Jones returned and was seen in the backyard once again, this time carrying a rifle.

A resident called the police and Jones was arrested at approximately 5:37 a.m. on Monday morning without incident.

Jones was taken to Nassau County Police Headquarters and charged with second-degree attempted burglary, two counts of criminal possession of a weapon and menacing.

He is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on Tuesday, Jan. 28.
