A man allegedly screamed at children and staff then tried to break a window at a daycare center in Baldwin.

The man, who is homeless and identified as Kevin Johnson, 40, screamed obscenities at the kids and teachers outside of Learn and Play Day Care Center at 2163 Grand Ave. Tuesday, July 2 at 2 p.m., according to Nassau County Police.

When teachers brought the children inside the center for their safety, he reportedly pulled the door and grabbed an orange construction cone and attempted to smash the front window to gain entry, police said.

Johnson left on foot after a teacher called 911 then was arrested a short time later without incident, according to police.

He faces charges of third-degree attempted burglary and seven counts of endangering the welfare of a child and will be arraigned Wednesday at First District Court in Hempstead
