The incident occurred on Saturday, Jan. 4 at about 9:20 p.m. in Brentwood.

Nelson Gonzalez, of Brentwood, was walking in the roadway on Crooked Hill Road, near McNair Street, when he was struck by a 2006 Jeep traveling northbound, Suffolk County Police said.

Gonzalez was transported to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore where he was pronounced dead. 

The driver of the Jeep, Delmi Rodriguez, 32, of Brentwood, was not injured.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check. Detectives are asking anyone with information on the crash to call the Third Squad at 631-854-8352.
