A 56-year-old Long Island man has been charged with abusing three dogs.

Suffolk County Police responded to a 911 call reporting animal abuse at 8:35 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1 in Lake Ronkonkoma.

Upon arrival, police say evidence was found that Thomas Benjamin choked and repeatedly kicked three dogs.

Sixth Precinct officers, in cooperation with Suffolk County SPCA, charged Benjamin with two counts of animal cruelty under the New York State Agricultural Law.

The Town of Brookhaven Animal Control took the dogs into its care.
