A female tenant was grabbed by her Wantagh landlady who then wrapped a bungee cord around her neck before repeatedly hitting her, police said.
According to Nassau County Police detectives, officers received a radio assignment for an assault that just occurred on Hunt Road just before 11:30 p.m. Friday, July 5.
Upon arrival, they say they discovered the 30-year-old female victim had been attacked by her landlord.
The landlady, Natalie Lapelosa, 43, had grabbed the victim from behind, wrapped the bungee cord around her neck and punching her repeatedly in the head and face, causing substantial pain and bleeding, police said. Lapelosa then fled the scene on foot, said police. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
A short time later, officers responded to a call for a landlord/tenant disturbance at the same location. The victim informed officers that the defendant had returned and was threatening her. Lapelosa refused to exit the residence, police say. Bureau of Special Operations officers and the 2nd Squad responded. Lapolosa eventually exited the location and was placed under arrest without incident.
Lapelosa has been charged with third-degree assault and criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation. She will be arraigned on Saturday, July 6 at First District Court in Hempstead.
