ID Released For Long Island Man Killed In Police-Involved Shooting

A man shot dead by police on Long Island after allegedly threatening officers with a rifle has been identified.

Suffolk County police said Jeffrey McClure, 26, of East Northport was shot and killed around 10:08 p.m., Sunday, June 7.

According to homicide detectives, officers were called to the home at 23 Grant St. for a domestic incident. When they arrived, McClure allegedly pointed a gun at officers who then exited the home. 

McClure made his way to the roof of the home and ignored commands to drop the gun, which appeared to be a hunting rifle, police said.

He was shot after threatening to shoot officers and pointed the gun at them, police said.

McClure was pronounced dead at the scene by rescue personnel, police said.

An investigation determined the gun was a pellet gun. 

The investigation is continuing.
